22.04.2011 A new ver­si­on of Soft­PI fSo­nar traf­fic sen­sor is re­le­ased

A new fe­atu­res was imp­le­men­ted:

1. NetF­low 9 pro­tocol sup­port

1.1. IPv6 -re­lated and ot­her NetF­low 9 fi­elds

fSo­nar 1.5 al­lows to ge­nera­te net­work traf­fic in­forma­ti­on and send it for furt­her pro­ces­sing in Netf­low v5 and v9 pro­tocols for­mat. Netf­low v9 gre­at­ly ex­tends  amo­unt of fi­elds with use­ful in­forma­ti­on abo­ut net­work ac­ti­vity with IPv4 or IPv6.
Now the IPv4 add­res­ses po­ol is most­ly ex­ha­us­ted and net­work ad­mi­nist­ra­tors who ha­ve not yet imp­le­men­ted IPv6, will be for­ced to imp­le­ment it in the ne­ar fu­ture. 

Are you com­pa­ny re­ady to imp­le­ment IPv6? How to me­asu­re net­work traf­fic using this pro­tocol? fSo­nar 1.5 may be use­ful when col­lecting such in­forma­ti­on.

In ad­di­ti­on to sup­port of the IPv6 pro­tocol NetF­low ver­si­on 9 al­so al­lows you to re­ce­ive a num­ber of ad­di­ti­onal pa­rame­ters of the net­work traf­fic, which are not ava­ilab­le when using ol­der re­visi­ons. For examp­le, you can mo­nitor MAC add­res­ses to iden­ti­fy net­work de­vices. Mo­re de­ta­iled desc­rip­ti­on abo­ut Netf­low pro­tocol are desc­ri­bed in ar­ticle What is NetF­low.

1.2. Cho­ose re­qu­ired fi­elds to ex­port

NetF­low v9 desc­ri­bes lar­ge set of fi­elds with va­ri­ous in­forma­ti­on. On­ly part of them are su­itab­le for the Win­dows ope­rating sys­tem. So fSo­nar user may cho­ose on­ly ne­eded fi­elds al­lo­wing to re­duce the pro­ces­sor lo­ad and net­work traf­fic.

1.3. Using fi­eld temp­la­tes

fSo­nar 1.5 al­lows to sa­ve se­lec­ted fi­elds list as re­usab­le temp­la­te to simp­li­fy big num­ber of fSo­nar ins­tan­ces con­fi­gura­ti­on.

2. Wor­king in IPv6 net­work en­vi­ron­ment

fSo­nar 1.5 sup­ports both IPv4 and IPv6 en­vi­ron­ments to send traf­fic in­forma­ti­on. So the Netf­low col­lector may be pla­ced at IPv4 or IPv6 net­work. 

3. Ins­tal­la­ti­on

fSo­nar ins­tal­ler re­qu­ires .NET Fra­mework 3.5 ins­tal­led. Ins­tal­la­ti­on wi­zard of fSo­nar 1.5  checks in­ternet con­necti­on and if   .NET Fra­mework 3.5 is not ins­tal­led, down­lo­ads it from the web.

4. Mul­ti­lan­gu­age

Soft­wa­re is ava­ilab­le in Eng­lish and Rus­si­an.

Ins­tal­ler and user ma­nu­al are ava­ilab­le on the Down­lo­ads sec­ti­on.

fSo­nar 1.0 may upg­ra­de on fSo­nar 1.5 for free.
